22 Years Later – Traveling Without the Kids

My husband and I are embarking on a two week vacation this fall, alone! Key word -ALONE. After 26 years of marriage, donʼt you think itʼs time we are allowed to do something like this? Having traveled with a kid or kids in tow the past 22 years, 98% of the time, letʼs just say, I canʼt wait! I have been thinking and I think I like where my mind has been taking me.

I honestly canʼt remember what it was like to travel pre-kids. This 40-something brain, accompanied by the 40-something year old eyes makes life a little more interesting. Maybe itʼs just as well that I donʼt recall traveling without kids more than 22 years ago.

Travel in the year 2013 sounds much more adventurous than it did in 1990! We will be cruising for one week of our vacation. There will be no need to bombard the ice cream machine 24/7 or the pizza place, right? I think itʼs also fair to say that the
kiddie pool will stay out of sight, as well as any kids play areas. Please, please, please-I really hope to be seated at dinner with a family without young kids. I know, greedy on my part, but really? Donʼt you think we deserve a little quiet?
After 22 years of travel with a kid in tow, I really do think my hubby and I are deserving of this. The solution will
be to eat elsewhere should it happen- problem solved!

The other week looks to be spent at Walt Disney World. You are probably saying, “Lady, you just said you donʼt want to be around kids!” Walt Disney World holds a special place in my heart – after all, we did honeymoon here. It simply is the most
magical place on earth and trust me, we will have a blast and only have to worry about TWO, instead of FOUR people in our party! There will be no transportation hassles, such as standing with a young child on a crowded bus or wondering where our teenage son is on the bus.

And then I hear folks speak of “hotel sex.” Seriously, what is that? Maybe I will find out! After all of this time, there is something new for me to experience while traveling! Who knew? I am excited to travel this Fall and canʼt wait to share our adventure with all of you when we return!
